The La Galera 90th Anniversary Nanán Box Press is the most visually striking vitola in Tabacalera Palma's landmark anniversary release — and an entirely new shape for the company. Named with a nod to Dominican culture, the Nanán is a perfecto unlike most: a sharp, defined box-press on all four panels that transitions into a soft belicoso head at the top, combining the structured angularity of a box-press with the tapered precision of a figurado. It's a demanding shape to roll consistently, and its debut as part of the 90th Anniversary release signals both the craft Tabacalera Palma's rollers are capable of and the ambition behind a blend that marks nine decades of Dominican cigar making.
The blend itself is as significant as the shape. For the first time in La Galera's history, the wrapper is grown entirely in the Dominican Republic — specifically on Jochy Blanco's Jacagua farm, where producing wrapper-quality leaf has always been considered extremely challenging. That wrapper sits over a Dominican Gurabo binder, with the filler drawing from three distinct farms and four different leaf selections: Corojo Ligero from Jacagua, Criollo '98 Ligero from La Canela, Criollo '98 Seco from Gurabo, and Piloto Cubano Seco from La Canela. Every component is Dominican, every farm is Blanco's, and every detail of the construction at Tabacalera Palma reflects the precision that a 90th anniversary milestone demands.
The belicoso head focuses the draw immediately, channeling the blend's earth, cedar, and spice through a precise taper before opening into the full body of the box-pressed section. Cocoa and leather develop through the middle, and the long finish carries the natural character of all-Dominican estate leaf — complex, grounded, and thoroughly satisfying from the first tapered draw to the last inch. Medium-full in strength, new in format, and built to mark a moment in La Galera's history that won't come around again.
