Year five. If you've been around for the previous BBQ Pig drops, you already know what that means. If you're new here, welcome — this is the one that gets circled on the calendar, stocked up on fast, and talked about long after the last one is smoked. Quesada's annual Pig release has built a genuine cult following, and the 2026 edition doesn't do anything to let that reputation down.
The build is a 4.5×60 Perfecto — short, thick, and serious. A rugged Mexican San Andres wrapper sets the tone: earthy, bold, with that characteristic dark sweetness San Andres is known for. The binder and filler? Classified. What we can tell you is that one of the filler leaves is Peruvian, and it shows. The blend has a depth and complexity that goes beyond what the specs on paper can tell you. Only two rollers at Quesada have ever been trusted to craft this vitola, and five years in, they've got it dialed.
Light it up and the first third comes out swinging with charred oak and roasted nuts, sweet pepper drifting through on the retrohale. By the second third, molasses and earth take over and a smoky BBQ richness settles in like the best part of a long cook. The final third holds that charred oak and sweet pepper right to the end, with a long, smoky finish that just hangs around.
Pair it with bourbon or a smoky Scotch to play into the charred oak, pull an espresso to cut the richness, or just light it up next to a rack of ribs and call it a perfect afternoon. One year of aging, two rollers, five years running — and once it's gone, it's gone until next May.
Ready for the next one whenever you are.
